Bank of America: $100, $300 or $500 depending on your direct deposits — through January 31, 2027

Up to $500Bank of America Advantage BankingEnds Jan 31, 2027

Open a Bank of America Advantage checking account and receive qualifying direct deposits within 90 days — the total you receive sets the bonus, up to $500.

Our take

The $500 tier needs $10,000 in paychecks in 90 days, which is about two months of a $60k salary — doable if you move your whole direct deposit. If you can't get there, the $100 and $300 tiers still pay for a 20-minute signup. Pick Advantage Plus; the fee waiver is the easiest of the three.

What you have to do

  1. Open a new Advantage SafeBalance, Advantage Plus or Advantage Relationship checking account through the offer page by January 31, 2027
  2. New checking customers only: no Bank of America personal checking account owned or co-owned in the last 12 months
  3. Receive Qualifying Direct Deposits within 90 days of opening; the total sets the bonus: $2,000–$4,999 → $100, $5,000–$9,999 → $300, $10,000+ → $500
  4. Bonus deposited within 60 days after the 90-day deposit period ends

Fees to avoid

$4.95 (SafeBalance), $12 (Advantage Plus) or $25 (Relationship) monthly, each waivable with direct deposit or a minimum balance.

Common questions

Which of the three accounts should I pick?

Advantage Plus for most people: $12 a month or $0 with direct deposit or a minimum balance. SafeBalance has no paper checks and a $4.95 fee ($0 under 25); Relationship is $25 unless you keep larger balances. All three qualify for the same bonus.

Answered by StackTheDeal
Is the bonus based on all my deposits combined?

Yes. Bank of America adds up every Qualifying Direct Deposit received in the first 90 days and pays the tier you reached: $2,000 earns $100, $5,000 earns $300, $10,000 earns $500.

Answered by StackTheDeal
What counts as a Qualifying Direct Deposit?

Regular monthly income like salary, pension or Social Security sent by your employer or payer to your account and routing numbers. Transfers from another bank, wires, Zelle, ATM and mobile deposits are specifically excluded.

Answered by StackTheDeal
I closed a Bank of America checking account last year. Eligible?

Only if it's been 12 months. The offer excludes anyone who owned or co-owned a Bank of America personal checking account in the last 12 months. Credit cards and savings don't count against you.

Answered by StackTheDeal
When is it paid, and can I close after?

Within 60 days after the 90-day deposit period ends, so about 5 months after opening at the latest. The account must be open and in good standing when it's paid; after that there's no stated clawback, but keeping it 6 months is the safe habit.

Answered by StackTheDeal
Taxable? Credit pull?

Taxable, reported on a 1099. Opening is a soft pull with no credit score impact.
