Our take

The biggest public Chase offer going: $900 for opening checking and savings together. The checking half is easy — one qualifying direct deposit, and the terms set no minimum amount. The savings half is the real work: $15,000 of new money parked for 90 days at Chase's 0.01% APY, so treat the $200 plus the $400 kicker as the interest that money would have earned elsewhere. Only have a direct deposit to send? The standalone $400 Total Checking offer beats doing half of this one.

What you have to do

  1. Open a new Chase Total Checking account and a new Chase Savings account at the same time, by January 27, 2027
  2. Checking ($300): have a qualifying direct deposit post to the new checking account within 90 days of enrollment
  3. Savings ($200): deposit $15,000 or more in new money into the new savings account within 30 days and keep a $15,000 balance for 90 days
  4. Do both and Chase adds an extra $400 — $900 total, each bonus paid within 15 days of finishing its requirement
  5. New Chase checking and savings customers only; one checking and one savings bonus every two years

Fees to avoid

$12 monthly fee on Total Checking, waived with $500+ in monthly direct deposits, a $1,500 minimum daily balance, or $5,000 across Chase accounts. Chase Savings has a $5 monthly fee, waived with a $300 daily balance — the $15,000 you park for the bonus covers it.

Verified: Terms confirmed against Doctor of Credit's offer summary, Oct 10, 2026: $300 checking (direct deposit within 90 days) + $200 savings ($15,000 in new money within 30 days, balance held 90 days) + $400 extra for completing both. Open by January 27, 2027 — extended per DoC's Oct 2, 2026 update. Source: account.chase.com. Offers change; the bank's page is final.

Common questions

Do I have to open both accounts to get anything?

No. Each half pays on its own — $300 for the checking, $200 for the savings. The extra $400 only comes when you open both at the same time and finish both sets of requirements.

Answered by StackTheDeal
How big does the direct deposit need to be for the $300?

The terms set no minimum amount, but it has to be a real direct deposit — an electronic deposit of a paycheck, pension or government benefits. Transfers from another bank, Zelle, PayPal and micro-deposits do not count.

Answered by StackTheDeal
What counts as 'new money' for the savings bonus?

Money that isn't already held at Chase or its affiliates. Deposit $15,000 or more into the new savings account within 30 days of enrollment — send it straight to the savings account, not via the checking — and keep the balance at $15,000 or more for 90 days.

Answered by StackTheDeal
I got a Chase account bonus a while ago. Can I do this again?

Chase allows one new checking bonus and one new savings bonus every two years from your last enrollment date. You're also out if you had a Chase account closed within the last 90 days, or closed with a negative balance in the last 3 years.

Answered by StackTheDeal
Is the $900 taxable?

Yes. Chase reports account bonuses as interest on a 1099-INT, so the full $900 is ordinary income on your tax return.

Answered by StackTheDeal
Does opening these accounts hurt my credit or count toward 5/24?

No. Chase uses a soft pull for deposit accounts and doesn't pull ChexSystems for these, and bank accounts never count toward the 5/24 rule for Chase credit cards.
