$250Capital One's offer, as shown on Capital One's own site (Oct 8, 2026)Capital One 360 Checking: $250 with code CHECKING250 and two $500 direct deposits
Open 360 Checking with code CHECKING250 and receive two direct deposits of $500 or more within 75 days.
Our take
Lowest hurdle on the list — two $500 paychecks — on an account with no fees and 70,000+ free ATMs. $250 isn't the biggest number here, but it's the one almost anyone can finish. Code CHECKING250 has to be entered at opening; there's no fixing it after.

Common questions
I forgot the promo code when I opened. Can it be added later?
No. Capital One says the code CHECKING250 has to be entered at account opening; it can't be applied afterward. If you missed it, you're out of luck on this round.
Answered by StackTheDealDoes the $500 direct deposit have to be payroll?
Capital One's terms count a direct deposit of your paycheck, pension or government benefits made by an employer or payer, and they say electronic deposits from some payroll and government sources may be accepted. Zelle and transfers from your own accounts don't count. If your payer isn't a traditional employer, check the terms.
Answered by StackTheDealWho is not eligible?
Anyone who has or had a 360 Checking, Simply Checking or Total Control Checking account with Capital One, as primary or secondary holder, on or after January 1, 2024, and anyone whose account isn't in good standing. Savings-only and credit card customers are fine.
Answered by StackTheDealWhen does the $250 arrive?
Within 60 days after your second qualifying deposit of $500 or more posts, and both have to arrive within 75 days of opening. Most people report it in about 4 to 6 weeks.
Answered by StackTheDealCan I close it afterward without losing the bonus?
Capital One's terms require the account to be open and in good standing when the bonus is paid. There's no stated clawback period, but keeping it open a few months is the safe play.
Answered by StackTheDealIs this a hard pull or taxable?
Soft pull only, no effect on your credit. The $250 is reported as interest on a 1099-INT.
